Steps to Prepare for Voting

The New Mexico Secretary of State voting Portal has helpful information at NMVote.org

Here are steps to take to prepare for voting:

> Check registration status, register to vote, or changed registered party:

Check Status

If you are not registered, or want to change your registered party, you can do this online. You must have a social security number and a driver’s license or other state-issued ID: Register or Change

> Find information about the candidates and general election information

Beginning in early October (around 10/3), you can go to VOTE411.org, access the menu in the top left-hand corner, select NEW MEXICO, and explore the wealth of information for statewide elections, as well as personalized information specific to your address. If you are in Bernalillo or Sandoval county, you can also go to numerous places to find the VOTE411 information in printed form, called the Voter Guide. Locations will be listed on this website in September.

> Find out what your ballot will look like.

Go here for an online sample ballot that you can print. Or, go to an early voting site and they will print one for you. This information is usually available some time before early voting begins.

> Using the information you have found, fill out your sample ballot.

> Decide where you will vote:

If you want to vote using an absentee ballot, you must request one. You can download and print a request form here, or wait until closer to the start of early voting to request one online here.

If you want to vote early and in person, you can find voting places here. Remember to take your sample ballot with you to help you complete your ballot.
