League to Discuss Legislative Priorities

League of Women Voters of New Mexico Advocacy Chair Richard Mason will speak to the December lunch unit about the League’s legislative priorities for the 2020 session of the New Mexico legislature. That session begins on Jan. 21, 2020. This is a 30-day session and legislation will be limited to budget considerations and any special items Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham considers important.

Mason will get into the specifics of tax reform and spending that the league supports. The league also supports restoring a solar tax credit which expired in 2016 and which may come up during this legislative session.

One important aspect of Mason’s work as the advocacy chair is an effort to establish an independent redistricting commission to handle redistricting of state and local government districts that will occur after the 2020 census. The issue will not be part of the coming legislative session but is an important part of the league’s long-term work.

Please join us for a festive lunch on December 12 at 11:45 a.am. at Embassy Suites (1000 Woodward Drive NE.) There will be no meeting at La Vida Llena this month, so this is our only opportunity to discuss legislative issues.

Please make your reservations by 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec.
